EDF Trading's role is extensive and includes managing the Group's power output, coal procurement and transportation, emissions trading, gas supply, storage and transportation, biomass procurement and hedging and risk management. It is able to perform this role because of its extensive knowledge of the physical and financial wholesale energy markets.
EDF Trading manages a large portfolio of assets which gives it the ability to source, supply, transport, store, blend and convert physical commodities across the wholesale energy markets.
These activities enable EDF to meet its supply commitments to its customers whilst controlling the risks. EDF Trading is active across the global wholesale markets for electricity, natural gas, LNG, LPG, upstream gas, environmental products and coal and freight. It also has a US retail business serving large commercial and industrial customers.
Wholly-owned subsidiary of the EDF Group, EDF Trading has around 1,000 employees with its headquarters in London and offices in Europe, the United States and Asia. In 2013, EDF Trading traded around 3,320 TWh of electricity (Europe and the US), 412 billion therms of natural gas, 666 million tonnes of coal and 380 million tonnes of CO2 (in emission certificates).
